The first industry certification for mobile forensics
What sets your skills apart from others? Knowledge, experience, quality, and integrity; all of these things come into play with every forensic examiner when it comes to finding the truth. Paraben's Certified Mobile Examiner is the premier industry certification for mobile forensic examiners encompassing the qualities and standards that bring about the best quest for truth in mobile devices. Mobile forensic examiners are faced with more and more types of digital evidence that come from a variety of devices. The PCME keeps this in mind and has different tiers of knowledge levels that are required to complete the certification. There are two levels of PCME certification one for practioners and one for individuals studying in the field of mobile forensics.
Requirements to become PCME Certified (Practitioner)
- Complete and pass Mobile Level 1 - Mobile Forensics Fundamentals or its approved equivalent**
- Complete and pass Mobile Level 2 - Advanced Smartphone and Tablet Forensics
- Complete and pass Mobile Level 3 - Cellular/GPS Signal Analysis
- Six months of practical experience with devices that can be verified through written documents from a supervisor or equivalent
- Complete and pass a written examination with a proctor present (Proctor cannot be related or have a personal relationship with the test taker)
- Complete and pass four practical application examinations of associated mobile devices
- Recertification* required every 2 years from date of completion
- Certification fee of $395.00 U.S. and $195.00 to renew every two years
- All examinations must be passed at a minimum of 80%
*Recertification requires passing a written exam for the first recertification and a practical exam for the second recertification.
Requirements to become PCME Associate Certified
This certification is designed for individuals wishing to study the field of mobile forensics, but are not active practioners in the field
- Complete and pass Mobile Level 1 - Mobile Forensics Fundamentals or its approved equivalent**
- Complete and pass Mobile Level 2 - Advanced Smartphone and Tablet Forensics
- Complete and pass Mobile Level 3 - Cellular/GPS Signal Analysis
- Complete and pass a written examination with a proctor present (Proctor cannot be related or have a personal relationship with the test taker)
- Recertification* required every 2 years from date of completion. All recertifications for the Associate PCME are written examinations
- Certification fee of $295.00 U.S. and $95.00 to renew every two years
- All examinations must be passed at a minimum of 80%

The PCME Process for Practioners
Once the six months of practical experience documentation has been submitted, the examination process begins. The PCME examination process has five parts and MUST be completed in the following order:
- Sign and submit PCME Ethics Form
- Online Examination
- Pass or Fail will determine if the next stage can be started
- Practical Examinations
- Case 1
- Case 2
- Case 3
- Case 4
- You have 180 days to complete the PCME process following the start of the practical portion.
Once all practical results are received, the grading process can take up to 60-days to complete before final certification is awarded
The Associate PCME Process
Once the courses are completed and examinations with the courses are passed. The associated may setup a testing session to take the written examination of the PCME Associate process. The PCME Associate examination process has four parts and MUST be completed in the following order:
- Sign and submit PCME Ethics Form
- Online Examination
- Pass or Fail will determine if the next stage can be started
- You have 120 days to complete the PCME Associate examination process once your final course is completed and passed.
PCME Ethics
You will need to submit a signed Ethics Form in order to begin the PCME process. You must read, understand and agree to abide by the PCME Code of Professional Ethics before beginning the PCME process. Please note that you may not have individuals that are related or have a personal relationship with the test taker be the proctor in the examination process.

Written Examination
The online test is 100 questions with a time limit. The written examination must be taken with a proctor present. If you do not pass the initial online examination with 80% or better, you are allowed one retake of the examination within 30 days of your initial test and the highest score will be used as your certification score. If you fail the second examination you will be forced to pay the entire PCME examination fee again and only be allowed to take the test one more time before not being allowed in the program.
Once your online score has been recorded, you are not allowed any retakes of the online examination after you pass it with an 80 or better. Again, only one retake is allowed and is only allowed if you score below 80% on your first attempt before you must repay the fee and start the process again.
A score of 80% or higher must be scored on all five parts of the examination in order to receive the PCME certification or PCME Associate certification. In order to maintain the integrity of this certification, you will not be provided any feedback on submitted case analysis other than a score. At no time will help be given on any part of the certification process (written or practical).
Practioner
Once you have submitted the forms to start the PCME examination and have received approval with your test login information, your 180 days will begin. Once you have completed the online examination and ethics form, the instructions for beginning the 4 practical examinations will be forwarded to your email address.
