Become proficient in using Paraben's P2 Commander in your forensic examinations. Designed for forensic examiners who have had fundamental training on digital forensics, PCFE combines live as well as online training for Paraben users to become certified examiners in Paraben's hard drive analysis tools. PCFE examiners will learn how to use P2 Commander to get the most out of the tool during forensic exams.

Requirements to become PCFE Certified (Practioner)
  • Complete and pass P2 Commander Level 1 or its approved equivalent**
  • Complete and pass P2 Commander Level 2
  • Six months of practical experience that can be verified through written documents from a supervisor or equivalent
  • Complete and pass a written examination with a proctor present (Proctor cannot be related or have a personal relationship with the test taker)
  • Complete and pass four practical application examinations of associated FAT/NTFS, EXT file systems
  • Recertification* required every 2 years from date of completion
  • Certification fee of $395.00 U.S. and $195.00 to renew every two years
  • All examinations must be passed at a minimum of 80%
*Recertification requires passing a written exam for the first recertification and a practical exam for the second recertification. Requirements to become PCFE Associate Certified This certification is designed for individuals wishing to study the field of hard drive forensics, but are not active practioners in the field.
  • Complete and pass P2 Commander Level 1 or its approved equivalent**
  • Complete and pass P2 Commander Level 2
  • Complete and pass P2 Commander Level 3
  • Complete and pass a written examination with a proctor present (Proctor cannot be related or have a personal relationship with the test taker)
  • Complete and pass four practical application examinations of associated FAT/NTFS, EXT file systems
  • Recertification* required every 2 years from date of completion. All recertifications for the Associate PCFE are written examinations
  • Certification fee of $295.00 U.S. and $95.00 to renew every two years
  • All examinations must be passed at a minimum of 80%
*Recertification requires passing a written exam for the first recertification and a practical exam for the second recertification.

The PCFE Process for Practioners
Once the six months of practical experience documentation has been submitted, the examination process begins. The PCFE examination process has five parts and MUST be completed in the following order:
  1. Sign and submit PCFE Ethics Form
  2. Online Examination
  3. Pass or Fail will determine if the next stage can be started
  4. Practical Examinations
    1. Case 1
    2. Case 2
  5. You have 120 days to complete the PCFE process following the start of the practical portion
Once all practical results are received, the grading process can take up to 60-days to complete before final certification is awarded.

The Associate PCFE Process
Once the courses are completed and examinations with the courses are passed. The associated may setup a testing session to take the written examination of the PCFE Associate process. The PCFE Associate examination process has four parts and MUST be completed in the following order:
  1. Sign and submit PCFE Ethics Form
  2. Online Examination
  3. Pass or Fail will determine if the next stage can be started
  4. You have 90 days to complete the PCFE Associate examination process once your final course is completed and passed

  • You will need to submit a signed Ethics Form in order to begin the PCFE process. You must read, understand and agree to abide by the PCFE Code of Professional Ethics before beginning the PCFE process. Please note that you may not have individuals that are related or have a personal relationship with the test taker be the proctor in the examination process.

    Written Examination
    There are four written examinations associated with the PCFE process. The first three examinations are associated with each level of study and qualify the individual for the final written examination which is the PCFE examination. All written examinations must be passed with an 80% or better score to continue on to the next step in the process. All examinations must be taken with a Proctor present that fulfills the requirements of a Proctor.

    If a PCFE candidate on the first testing attempt does not achieve a passing grade of 80% on any single examination in the process, a second attempt will be allowed after a mandatory wait period of 120 days from the date that the unsatisfactory grade was reported. If a PCFE candidate on the second certification attempt does not achieve a passing grade of 80% on any single exam, a third attempt will be allowed after a mandatory wait period of 180 days from the date that the unsatisfactory grade was reported. During this mandatory wait period of 180 days, the candidate must complete and document at least 40 hours of applicable self-study in the field of handheld forensics. Documentation of this self-study must be presented to Paraben for approval prior to the third attempt.

    An examination fee of $395.00 will be charged for the second and the third PCFE final examination retake attempts. If a PCFE candidate on the third certification attempt does not achieve a passing grade of 80% on any single exam, the candidate will be removed from the certification program and no longer be qualified to become PCFE.

    A score of 80% or higher must be scored on all five parts of the PCFE examination in order to receive the PCFE certification or PCFE Associate certification. In order to maintain the integrity of this certification, you will not be provided any feedback on submitted case analysis other than a score. At no time will help be given on any part of the certification process (written or practical).

    Practioners
    Once you have submitted the forms to start the PCFE examination and have received approval with your test login information, your 120 days will begin. Once you have completed the online examination and ethics form, the instructions for beginning the 2 practical examinations will be forwarded to your email address.
